Kansas City Happy Hour

I had been to La Bodega in Town Center Crossing for lunch a number of years ago, but it wasn't until today that I knew about their amazing happy hour. I started with a glass of the red wine sangria - one of the best that I've ever had. I ordered one item from the Tapas Frias (cold) and three from the Tapas Calientes (hot) section. The happy hour menu are all things on the regular menu, but what makes it "happy hour" is that it's half price! My order of sangria and four appetizers was $20.77 excluding tip. If you're looking for larger portions, order items that are non-meat and you'll have plenty leftover that you'll be able to take home for fourth meal. Happy Hour Stats... Rockhill Grille has a great selection of happy hour apps, including the tater tots. Specials include $2 off their starter section (except for the wings), $2 off the top section of their drinks menu and a special off the red and white wines by the glass. Bristol at the Power & Light District has recently rebranded to Bristol Seafood + Steak + Social . Their Bar Only menu does have different offerings than their dinner menu, but we were there for their Social Hour (bar, patio or lounge only), which has its own specials. We started off with drinks: a Bourbon Basil Smash and a Smoked Old Fashioned. A gentleman came around offering guests these amazing drop biscuits and butter and then we ordered some apps. We kept it around a seafood theme and ordered mini New England lobster rolls, fried calamari, and four oysters that were part of the One Buck Shuck deal. I'm a huge fan of sauces. Two sauces came with the oysters and with the calamari - you must try all of the sauces. Yes, if they put it on the table, you should/must try it. Lulu's Thai Noodle Shop in the Crossroads is my go-to when I'm craving pad thai, but they also throw down a good happy hour too. Personally, I like to enjoy my happy hour on the patio, which is what I did on a recent happy hour quest. On this particular occasion, I wanted to try items I had not tried on the menu before. This time I went with the avocado fries, the half order of veggie fried rice, and Tsingtao. The avocado fries were great, especially with the aioli. The veggie fried rice was hands down the best fried rice I've ever tasted. Ever. Pair that with a cold Tsingtao and some sunshine on the patio, and I'm one happy houress! Happy Hour Stats... Lidia's is located in the Freight House District in Kansas City, just North of Union Station. You can drive there or walk across the pedestrian bridge from Union Station. Lidia's was the third stop on a progressive Happy Hour with a friend. We ordered wine, Arancini and Polipo at the expansive u-shape bar. It was the first time I had tried octopus, which was surprisingly good. If you're adventurous, it's a must try. The Arancini was good, but they advertise it on social media with a different sauce (that looks delicious). For the Polipo, Arancini and four glasses of wine (two per person), the total would have been $70, but since it was Happy Hour, all of those items were half off, and we spent $35. Happy Hour Stats... A covered patio, live music, good food, and some great Happy Hour options aptly describes the Ollie's Local . Located at the corner of 31st and Gillham Road in Martini Corner, Ollie's is a short jaunt from Downtown Kansas City. ambiance at Ollie's Local is a Happy Hour spot I frequent. For the drink specials, yes, but more for the tasty food. My stomach is grumbling as I'm writing this for the Fancy-Pants Tots. The last time I Happy Hour'd at Ollie's, I had the Fancy-Pants Tots, the Hummus and the Stiegel Grapefruit Radler. The Fancy-Pants Tots are sweet and spicy with blue cheese and bacon. The Hummus is whipped and creamy. And the Grapefruit Radler (upgraded to the 20 oz. for free) reminds me of Summer, even as the temperatures cool down. I highly recommend all three. The total cost for my Happy Hour was $18.47 for those three items during Happy Hour. Outside of the 3 - 7 pm Happy Hour, these items would have been $25.47. This is a savings of $7! Happy ...

A friend from Lee's Summit picked this place for our Happy Hour and I had to admit that I hadn't heard of it. Opening in July 2018, this restaurant is in Lee's Summit's SummitWoods Crossing in the old 810 Zone space. It's the newest restaurant from Andy Lock and Domhnall Molloy; number seven according to this  Feast Magazine article  by April Fleming. I arrived at 5 pm on a Thursday night it was already packed with people enjoying Happy Hour I ordered the Cherry Limeade Crush, Hushpuppies, Chesapeake Fries and Calamari. The Cherry Limeade Crush was reminiscent of Sonic's popular cherry limeade drink and paired well with the fried foods. I definitely recommend the Hushpuppies and make sure you ask for an extra side of Malt Vinegar Aioli. The space at the high top tables can be a little tight when you're ordering multiple things.
